The MOT test is a UK safety and road-worthiness test. The law states your vehicle should have an annual MOT test if the car is more than three years old. It is an illegal offence to drive a car on public roads without a valid certificate. A valid MOT test certificate will be required to buy car insurance.

A number of vital checks must be carried out during the MOT test. Amongst these are tyre tread wear and engine performance. If the set standards are met then the car will pass and is deemed roadworthy and most importantly safe. However, if the set standards are not met the car will fail and repairs will need to be made before it becomes roadworthy again.
